Host Headers

Host header names are Web site addresses that allow a single IP address to support multiple Web sites. For example, a company server might host Web sites for various internal departments, such as marketing, accounting, and human resources. To distinguish these Web sites from one another, since they have the same IP address, they are assigned unique host header names.

The following table shows how you can use unique host headers with a single IP address to distinguish various Web sites.
