Setting General Site Identity Properties

1. From the primary navigation bar, choose Sites.
2. In the Tasks list, choose Create.
3. Complete the information on the page to create a new Web site.
4. Choose OK.
5. In the Site Identifier box, type the unique name of the Web site.

   A Web site identifier must be unique and can contain up to 12 uppercase or lowercase characters except for the following: " / \ [ ] : ; | = , + * ? < >. Additionally, a Web site identifier cannot consist solely of periods (.) or spaces.

6. The Web user interface for Windows server administration will automatically populate the Directory box with a default directory path. You can change this path.
7. Select the type of user account you want for Web site administration access. You can choose to create a local user account, or you can designate an existing user account.
8. Optionally: If you choose to assign administrative privileges to an existing user account, type the user name in the Site Administrator box.

   Note   If the server is part of a domain, and you choose to assign administrative privileges to an existing user account, you must type both the domain name and the user name in the format <domain name>\<user name>.

9. Optionally: If you choose to create a local user account, type and confirm the administrative password in the Administrator Password and Confirm Password boxes. The password must conform to any password complexity rules in effect for the domain to which the server belongs.
